WISER Highlights – Spring 2022

WISER at the University of Pittsburgh is a world leader in healthcare simulation. The following is the focus news of the WISER Center in the spring of 2022.

Dr. PaulPhrampus

Greetings Friends of WISER, Exciting and busy times here in Pittsburgh! We have just concluded our WISER Symposium focusing on the role of simulation related todiversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Our uniquehybrid program included faculty participants from around the globe for our plenary opening sessions and panel.

Symposium

WISER hosted its much-anticipated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion symposium on April 8.“Getting WISER on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The Roles of Simulation” connected industry leaders in continuing the important conversations around discrimination, bias, and social determinants of health.

Hybrid Model

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Course was created by UPMC St. Margaret and WISER to help new PCTs have a smooth transition into their role as members of the healthcare team.

Early Mornings

The time is 5:45 am. Most simulation centers are closed, lights off, and staff are sound asleep. Not WISER!

New WesternMaryland Satellite Center

WISER happily welcomes UPMC WesternMaryland Hospital Simulation Center as its newest satellite simulation center. The site is anticipated to fully launch simulation operations at the end of May with three dedicated “medical education theater” rooms, two control rooms, and a debriefing room.
